However, being a successful cook doesn't depend on fancy or expensive equipment, so don't feel disadvantaged if you don't own all the mod cons. As a young mum and beginner cook I relied on elbow grease and old-fashioned (and sometimes unusual) cooking implements - like a large bottle for a rolling pin, a fork in lieu of a whisk and an old hand beater for whipping the cream.
I do recommend though investing in a few good electrical appliances if you are serious about cooking. I couldn't survive without some of these things now and I wonder how I ever did. You can read my confession of undying love for my bread maker here.
Note: Don't buy every ridiculous gadget on the market that will only clutter your cupboards. Just invest in a few good brands of devices that you will use again and again and again.
